Market Update

Market Update

Potato market seems to remain steady.  Some large sizes (40 & 50’s) are more plentiful in both Norkota’s and Burbank’s but 60’s through 100’s seem to be in good demand.  Most sheds that still have Norkota’s are packing them only two or three days per week.  Making getting loads heavy to one size more challenging.  Burbanks are the same.  Mark, our QA person, has been busy trying to spot the best lots that meet you specifications!

Onions are more challenging to follow.  Between new crop and old crop we are seeing a wide range in prices and quality.  In Idaho/Oregon many are finishing up but we will have shippers packing into May.  Most of those will be coming out of cold storage.  In Texas, the early Mexican crop is finished and the Texas crop is just getting started.   Some water issues have cause Texas product to be shipped early and the quality was only fair.  Later Texas and Mexican product appears to be better quality however, we have 20 to 25% fewer acres planted.  We think we  will have normal yields but still look for a decrease in total onion volume.

PLEASE DON’T FORGET TO CALL GARNAND MAKRETING FOR YOUR PRODUCE NEEDS!!
