UPDATE-7/16

UPDATE-7/16

Well the heat that hit the west last week has subsided much still in the upper 90’s low 100’s.  This is lasting longer than anyone would like.  Old crop Idaho’s took a hugh jump yesterday.  When Washington gets  started then we have a chance to slow it down but not until that happens, so expect prices to continue to climb.  Most Idaho shippers are on a day to day basis.

Rain continues to be a problem in the Southwest so we are seeing the onion market remain steady.  California has had a bit more flexiblity but that appears to be changing as well.  We expect to have direct seeded onions out of Washington about August 1.  New crop Idaho/Oregon will start about  August 15, however that will be a slow start as some early fields are starting to see the effects of the hot weather.  It mayvery well cause some size issues throughout the deal.
