Good Morning! Here are some interesting facts we have gotten from The Packer and shippers we have talked to about this years apple crop. Nationally, we are up about 9% over the five year average. Total production for the U.S. is expected to be about 243 million boxes of apples. Washington is forecast to produce 140 million cartons which is down from the 155 million last year but still significantly ahead of the five year average. Big comebacks will be in Virginia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania which had the freeze damage last year. Shippers we talked to caution that the crop is not harvested yet and a bad hail storm or some unseasonable weather may change those numbers. What this means, if the crop is harvested, is we can expect a competive apple market. We will keep you informed as we move forward.
